On November 28th 2010 Stevie Johnson dropped a game winning 40 yard touchdown bomb from Fitzpatrick, at the time it seem inevitable that this was just another sad saga in what is known as the Buffalo Bills. However looking back on it now I think that it happened for a reason and that reason was the football gods had another plan for this team and what was to come. Later that April Buffalo drafted Marcell Dareus with the 3rd overall pick in the draft as well as they were able to add Aaron Williams with their second pick. Fast forward the season to the 2011 off season and the Bills sign Mario Williams, Mark Anderson and they draft Stephon Gilmore who many believe was the best CB in the draft. It truly seems to me the god’s had a bigger and better plan for this team, with out Stevie dropping that pass the bills do not have the 3rd overall pick and they do not end up with Dareus and Williams. With out drafting Dareus the Bills do not land the biggest free agent in the teams history in Mario Williams and they do not jab a knife into the Patriots and sign their best pass rusher from a season ago in Mark Anderson.
The Bills now have a legitimate defensive front line and with a healthy Shawne Merriman they could be in line to have one of the best defenses in the NFL this season. I remember when the pass was dropped and all the hoop la that went on with it after the fact the town, the team and especially Stevie Johnson were understandably shaken by it but who could have known what was to come. I listen to WGR550 regularly and I remember hearing one of the host hypothetically talking about what type of impact that drop pass may have on the future of the Bills, well in my eyes it paved the way for Super Mario and the great things to come. Below is Stevies Tweet from that day, God didn’t do Stevie wrong that day he did him right, you need to be knocked down a few times before succeeding and it looks like the Bills are finally getting back up from being knocked down over and over again.
